Club News
Well the UK diving season is about to fin into action. HWSAC official warm up!?! dive is on the 22nd March at Vobster Quay. Simon Fennell our Diving Officer is organising the event and as also arranged to do some Nitrox practi-cal training, so its really worth while going along. If you don’t want to do the Nitrox training is a good opportunity to get back in the water to check kit / weight / buoyancy etc before the proper diving starts.

Dive Review - By Simon Fennell
23-24 February 2008 - Advanced Nitrox Course
7 club members took an early season plunge into the dark arts of Nitrox diving at the weekend. Saturday involved a day of lectures covering everything from the history of Nitrox through equipment configuration to the effects of excessive Oxygen on the body. Having suc-cesfully navigated the intricacies of Units of Pulmonary Toxic doses, Central Nervous System toxicity and a 30 question multiple choice exam, 3 hardy soles made the journey to Vobster Quay on Sunday to complete the two qualifying dives for the Advanced Nitrox certification.
Despite it being February, the Vobster water was unseasonably warm with 6 degrees being plenty to keep everyone awake and focused. The day in-volved deploying delayed SMBs from mid water (a skill which is not mas-tered first time - Alan Davis will attest to this), completing gas switches dur-ing stops and displaying a "high" level of buoyancy control during simulated 10 minute decompression stops. Interspersed with several cups of tea, a balanced diet of bacon baps, hamburgers and chocolate bars, Alan Davis, Len & Rita Sumner all succesfully completed the required skills to get signed off. The remaining course members needing to do the pracitcal sessions, Rob Taylor and James Godbold both have all this to look forward to over Easter in between the Easter eggs.
